Empowering future clinical social workers and nonprofits.

Get to Know Ed

Ed Cullumber is a clinically licensed social worker in both Missouri and Kansas who provides clinical supervision and consultation for social workers, supervisors, and behavioral health organizations serving individuals and communities impacted by trauma, complex systems, and high‑stress environments.

With nearly 30 years of experience across community mental health, correctional and forensic settings, pediatric services, and nonprofit behavioral‑health leadership, Ed brings a deep understanding of both direct clinical practice and the organizational contexts in which clinicians work. He has served as Vice President of Mental Health Services / Clinical Excellence at a large Certified Community Behavioral Health Organization (CCBHO), where his responsibilities have included clinical oversight, supervisor development, ethical practice support, and workforce sustainability across a large community‑based system with a budget in excess of $80 million.

Ed’s supervision and consultation work is grounded in:

  • Ethical and accountable clinical decision‑making

  • Trauma‑informed and systems‑aware practice

  • Supervisor role clarity and confidence

  • Support for clinicians working in complex, high‑acuity settings

Ed holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Kansas and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Missouri–Kansas City, integrating clinical training with an understanding of leadership demands, organizational dynamics, and system‑level pressures that shape day‑to‑day practice.

In addition to his civilian clinical work, Ed has extensive military medical leadership experience, having served in senior roles within the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He retired after more than 26 years of service at the rank of Colonel.  This experience informs a military‑ and veteran‑informed lens in his supervision and consultation work, with particular attention to cumulative trauma, leadership under pressure, moral injury, and the importance of strong support structures for those in service‑oriented professions.

Ed is also deeply engaged in community and civic service, serving on nonprofit boards and citizen advisory committees focused on children, families, community safety, and access to care. This community‑based involvement reinforces his commitment to strengthening not only individual clinicians, but the systems in which they practice.

Ed provides individual and group clinical supervision, consultation for supervisors and leadership teams, and support related to clinical ethics, professional development, secondary trauma, and system‑level challenges. His supervision style is collaborative, reflective, and grounded in respect for the realities of front‑line clinical work.
